RCIA – Mystagogy, the final period of the RCIA process is a special time after Easter for deepening a neophyte's understanding of the mysteries of faith. The neophyte’s (new members) will celebrate a Mass with Bishop Campbell on Saturday, May 21^st at 5:15 PM at St. Joseph Cathedral. All are invited to attend. A reception will be held for the neophytes following the Mass.

Bible Study – Currently St. Mary’s has two Bible study groups. Jason Shanks, Pastoral Assistant has a group that meets at 6 PM each Tuesday. Deacon Michael Ross has a group that meets each Wednesday at 7 PM. Both Bible Study groups meet on the second floor of the Burkley Center.

St. Mary First Communion is next Saturday, April 16^th during the 4:00 p.m. Mass. Please pray for our second graders as they prepare for this sacrament.

Lectors and Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are reminded to please get a substitute if you are unable to fill your assigned ministry.

Please remember that as the weather gets warmer young children who have been inside most of the winter don’t always remember safety rules. Please watch for our children when driving near schools and parks.

FROM THE PASTOR

Dear parishioners,

       The death of our Holy Father, Pope John Paul II, is a significant moment in the life of our Church.  We are certainly grateful for his strong and faithful leadership for more than 26 years.  I believe that history will show that he was truly a great leader, both for the Church and for the world.  As an expert at the Second Vatican Council, he had a keen understanding of its teaching, and so much of what he stood for as Pope shows the depth of this understanding.

       Pope John Paul was a man of tremendous integrity.  He truly lived – and died – what he taught.  His courageous critique of modern culture, and his defense of the sanctity of all human life, was made possible because of his deep faith in Jesus Christ.  His faith was truly the center of his life, and he has given to us an invaluable example of how a Christian, a priest, and a Pope should live.  His life genuinely echoed his motto, totus tuus, totally yours.  We will certainly miss him as our shepherd, yet we also confidently entrust him to our gracious, merciful, and loving Father.

       The cardinals now have a vital task to perform, as they will soon enter into conclave to elect John Paul’s successor.  Let us fervently pray for the guidance of the Holy Spirit to be with all of them.  There will be an abundance of speculation about the future of the Church in the days ahead, and I imagine that some of it will be pretty wild.  If we have learned anything from Pope John Paul II, I hope we follow his encouragement to “Be not afraid”.  Jesus Christ has promised to be with us always, so we have nothing to fear.  The Holy Spirit has always guided the Church, and will guide us still.

       Let us also pray for our children who are preparing for First Communion!  They will celebrate this next Saturday at the 4:00 PM Mass.  May their encounter with the Lord Jesus be just the beginning of a lifetime of faithful Catholic living.  Through their reception of this sacrament, may God always guide them to a deeper understanding of His love.

       May the good Lord bless and be with all of you and your families!

Are you a registered parishioner at St. Mary’s? If you are not listed in the parish guide book, pictorial directory or do not receive contribution envelopes through the mail you may not be. Registration in a parish is very important. It is not just because we want to send you contribution envelopes.

If you are ever asked to be a godparent or sponsor you will need to get a letter stating that you are a participating member of a parish. We cannot issue such a letter if you are not a registered parishioner. If you plan to marry or have your child baptized, registration is necessary. These are not only St. Mary’s requirements but the requirements of the Church.

We are about saving souls not collecting funds. St. Mary's purpose and mission is Christ and Eucharistic centered. We seek to be of one mind and heart with the Church in its mission for holiness by loving God with all our heart, all our mind, all our strength, all our soul; and by loving our neighbor as ourselves

·        St. Mary School Library invites all parishioners to participate in our annual Family Cake Decorating Contest, Monday, April 25^th as part of our Right to Read Week celebration. Our theme this year is ancient Egypt: “Get Wrapped Up in Reading!” Families may bake and decorate a cake based on a book or a reading theme. Lots of prizes!
