Young-at-Heart Lenten Project: Collecting toilet tissue and soap products for St. Francis Center, McArthur Ohio. Items may be left in the rear of church. Arrangement for donations of larger items (clothing, household items, etc.) may be made by calling 443-6154 or 443-1032.

The Ash Wednesday collection is for J.O.I.N. (the Joint Organization for Inner City Needs). Join is a Diocesan agency which provides emergency assistance to the poor in the form of food, clothing, prescription help, utility help, infant formula and ensure, birth certificates, eyeglasses, bus transportation, burial assistance, senior items and referrals to other public and private service providers.

St. Mary's semi-annual food drive for our neighbors in south Columbus will be held on Ash Wednesday, February 21^st and February 24-25 and March 3-4. St. Ladislas and Southside Community Ministries need our help. Any basic shelf-life food such as cereal, peanut butter, or canned goods is most welcome. The pantries also need monetary gifts to purchase large quantities of food from Mid Ohio Foodbank ($2.00 will buy 10 cases of corn)! Volunteers will be at the back of church after each mass to accept your donations. We appreciate all offerings!

Blue Jacket Game:  7^th and 8^th graders in our school and St. Mary’s high school students are welcome to join a trip to the Blue Jacket Game on Sunday, February 25^th.  Your cost (if we get enough to warrant group ticket price) will be $10.00. You must call by this Wednesday, February 21^st if you want to go.  Call 445 9668.  We will meet in the Atrium for pizza at 5:00, and then go to the 6:00 game.

Diocesan High School Youth Rally 2007: Attention all high school students! Want to meet new friends, hear great speakers, and just hang out with hundreds of teens from all over the Diocese of Columbus? Then come to the Diocesan High School Youth Rally! This highly anticipated annual two-day event, sponsored by the Diocesan Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry, is a opportunity to the young Catholic church from all over the diocese. The Youth Rally will take place at the Salesian Center Boys and Girls Club in downtown, Columbus on March 3^rd and 4^th. The weekend will include keynote speaker, Fr. Steve Ryan, SDB and local Catholic musical group Station 14, teen break-out sessions with our very own Jason Shanks presenting on “Catholic Myths,” prayer and worship, social events, new friends, recreation, song, and sacramental celebrations. This year’s theme is “One Way” which will help young people recognize that life is “one way” journey to God.

4-S Club Ladies Auxiliary Dinner Sunday, February 18^th at the club 281 E. Whittier St. from 12 Noon to 3:00 p.m. Delicious Roast Beef Dinner with Potatoes and carrots, applesauce, rolls and butter, and pudding for dessert. Carry out is available.

The new season of Theology and a Pub will begin on Thursday, February 22 with "Lectio Divina: Reading and Praying Over the Word of God" by Dr. Leo Madden. On many occasions since his election, Pope Benedict XVI has encouraged the reading of the Bible according to the traditional method known as Lectio Divina. Join us in February to find out: what is this method, how does it work, and how can I promote it in my own life and in the life of my parish? Doors open at 6:30 and the talk begins at 7pm at the Columbus Maennerchor, 966 South High Street in German Village. Admission is just $2, and the full Maennerchor food and drink menu will be available for purchase! The three traditional pillars of Lenten observance are prayer, fasting and almsgiving.

Prayer: More time given to prayer during Lent should draw us closer to the Lord. Daily Mass, Stations of the Cross, First Friday Eucharistic Adoration, Evening Prayer & rosary are some opportunities for prayer.

Fasting: Fasting is one of the most ancient practices linked to Lent. Lenten Fasting Regulations: 1) Abstinence on all the Fridays of Lent, and on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. No meat may be eaten on days of abstinence. Catholics 14 years and older should abstain from meat. 2) Fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Fasting means having only one full meal to maintain one's strength. Two smaller, meatless and penitential meals are permitted according to one's needs, but they should not together equal the one full meal

Almsgiving: The third traditional pillar is a sign of our care for those in need and an expression of our gratitude for all that God has given us.

Help Saint Mary School earn a few extra dollars and help to save the planet at the same time! The big green and yellow bin on our parking lot holds all of our recycled paper; every month, we receive a check (averaging about $90.00) for the paper we have in our bin. Many German Village residents use our bin and we invite our parish families to recycle all their household newspapers, junk mail, and magazines, too. The more paper recycled, the more we earn-- and we’ve saved a tree or two, as well.

From now until March 31, Abitibi Recycling is offering a special recycling promotion: If we can increase our paper recycling by 25%, they will send us a check for $250; if we increase our recycling by 50%, we’ll receive a check for $500! Please save up your household paper and drop it in the recycling bin and make sure this bulletin is recycled, too! No cardboard please.
