Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, August 15th is a
holy day of obligation. Masses will be celebrated here at 12 noon and 7:00 p.m. Following the 7:00 p.m. Mass we will have a
procession around the block then celebrate our patroness with a dessert reception.
This will also be our thank you reception for all the workers and patrons of
our 82nd Annual Homecoming Festival!
Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) will start up with a cookout and
informational meeting on August 29th at 6:30pm on the back patio of the
rectory. If you are interested in learning more about the Catholic faith
then RCIA is for you. There is no commitment to becoming Catholic, just
come and learn about the faith and make decisions as you go. All St. Marys parishioners are encouraged to
begin praying for next years class and to invite those you know. You are
the greatest witness to the faith! For more information please contact

Monday Confessions: There will be a two month suspension
of Monday confessions. They will resume on September 17 immediately after
the noon mass. There will be a reconciliation service Wednesday
evening, August 15th at 6:00 p.m. The service will precede the
mass for the holy day the Feast of the Assumption.

I want to thank
everyone who contributed to the support of the parish during this last fiscal
year. Donors, volunteers, fundraisers, bingo workers all worked together
to raise the necessary funds to operate St. Mary. Parents sacrificed to make
timely tuition payments, and the staff trimmed expenses wherever possible.
A two page detailed
version of the above report is on our website, or anyone can call me for a
printed copy. Watch the bulletin for the next regular meeting of the
finance committee as it is open to all parishioners. In the fiscal year
ending June 2006, the parish had to borrow about $200,000 from the diocese.
We did not have to borrow any funds this fiscal year ending in June 2007.
One reason for the big difference was the change in tuition policy.
Tuition was raised to help defray expenses, and then grants in aid were made to
those who qualified.
Our Sunday evening bingo game contributed $50,000 to parish
income last year, but we are seriously short on volunteers. Two jobs that need
volunteers are sales of instant bingos from 5:15 to 8:15; and calling back numbers when
someone calls out bingo from 6:30 to 7:30 or 7:45 to 9:00. Just one or two hours of
your time on Sunday evening can benefit the parish a great deal.
High School Students and incoming 7th
and 8th graders of St. Mary you are invited to a lock in at our school gym on
Saturday, August 18th. Religious activities, social activities, and
games and refreshments will be provided. 7:00 p.m. is the starting time, but folks can
come later at a time determined by their parents. Departure for those staying
overnight will be after the 9:00 a.m. Sunday morning Mass. Others can leave earlier if picked
up by parents between 11:00 and midnight on Saturday. Call Father Thomas to
request a registration form.
Western Knights grade school football practice
begins Monday, August 13th, 6:00 -8:00 p.m. at St. Mary Magdalene Field. All boys of the
parish entering grades 4 through 8 are welcome.

FESTIVAL TIME IS NEAR!! Our annual Homecoming Festival will
be on August 10 and 11, with set up nights on August 8 and 9. Can you
volunteer? Please call the parish office or just show up!
Raffle tickets: please turn your raffle tickets
before Friday by bringing them to the parish office, or mailing them back to
the parish. Additional raffle tickets are available at the parish office and
they will be sold at the Festival!! Raffle drawing is at 11:00
p.m. on
Saturday, August 11th. Winner need not be present.
Homecoming Festival Alumni Mass is Saturday, August 11th
at 4:00 p.m. Please join us for the Mass and stay for the festival, fun,
and food.
Cakes, cookies, pies, brownies please bring you baked goods to
the Specht center on Friday, August 10th beginning at 9:00 a.m. or Saturday.
St. Mary School lunch tickets will be sold at the
Homecoming Festival cafeteria booth. Eliminate the first week hassle by
purchasing your tickets early!
