Special Collection next week: Sacred Heart Association is a group of missionaries of priests and nuns working in southern parts of India. The motto is to bring the good news of Christ “Love of God and neighbor”. In this process, missionaries are actively involved in spreading the message of Christ. The people that they are working with are strong in their faith but are economically very poor. They were badly affected by the killer wave “Tsunami”. It has left behind many kids without parents, shelter, food, and education. At this point they have started a school and orphanage. There are 1200 going to this school. They are in the process of building an orphanage for 300 children. Father Carasala will share with you a personal story during the missionary appeal on September 8th and 9th. They need your support of prayers and financial assistance. A second collection will be taken up.

Labor Day is a national legal holiday that is over 100 years old. Over the years, it has evolved from a purely labor union celebration into a general "last fling of summer" festival. It grew out of a celebration and parade in honor of the working class by the Knights of Labor in 1882 in New York. In 1884, the Knights held a large parade in New York City celebrating the working class. The parade was held on the first Monday in September. The Knights passed a resolution to hold all future parades on the same day, designated by them as Labor Day.
