We are in need of liturgical ministers!  4:00pm--We need 13 extraordinary ministers and 2 altar servers; 9:00am--2 altar servers; 11:30am—10 extraordinary ministers.  If you are able to commit one Sunday each month, please contact Jason Shanks at 445-9668 or Roger Minner at 444-1265.

October is Respect Life Month: We will be saying a Rosary for Life immediately after the 9:00am Mass, on Sunday, October 7^th. Our prayers will help in building a culture of life.  Please mark your calendars for this important event.

 

Columbus Right to Life Educational Foundation is sponsoring two events that may be of interest during October.  1)  40 Days for Life—Please be praying for the end of abortion over the next forty days. If you feel compelled, a pray vigil is being held at a clinic on Cleveland Ave.  2) Life Chain is a peaceful “prayer chain” and public witness against abortion at the Ohio Statehouse.  Mark your calendars for October 18^th from 4:30pm to 5:30pm.  Please see www.columbusrighttolife.org for more details.

We are in need of volunteers for Service Saturday.  In conjunction with Ohio’s Make a Difference Day, volunteers will help work on house projects throughout central Ohio for the elderly and most vulnerable among us.  Last year we worked on 16 projects and are looking to make an even bigger impact this year!  Mark your calendars for October 27 from 9am until 3:00pm. We can use your help, even if you have only a few hours.  We will meet at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in German Village between 8:30 and 9:00 AM for training and assignments.  Lunch will be provided at your work site.  If you are unable to volunteer, please consider making a tax deductible gift to St. Mary’s, and include Service Saturday in the memo section.  All money will go directly to helping needy families have the homes they deserve.  To Make a Difference contact Jason Shanks at 445-9668, ext. 119.  To volunteer, sign up in the back of Church.

The Pontifical College Josephinum welcomes you to its 2007-2008 Building Spiritual Bridges to the Community lecture series!  The series begins on Wednesday, October 10, 2007, as John Hittinger, Vice-President of Academic Affairs at the University of St. Thomas in Houston, presents “Dimensions of Lay Apostolate According to Vatican II and Pope John Paul II” at 7:00 p.m. in the Jessing Center on the Josephinum campus. Welcome Committee News:  We will resume our bi-monthly fellowship dinners with Father Thomas beginning in October.  If interested, please sign up on the sheets provided along the north wall of the sanctuary under the pictures of our Holy Father and Bishop Campbell. First dinner October 2^nd.

 

RCIA:  RCIA is off to a great start with about 20 people studying and learning the faith.  Please keep them and their sponsors in your prayers.  Next week’s topic is a general history of the Church.  We are looking for parish school groups to sponsor refreshments and snacks on a particular Weds.  Bring snacks and take time to tell everyone about your group and the good work you are doing!

 

Young Heart Fall: Caravan to McCarther, Ohio will be Monday, Oct. 22^nd.  Items needed are: toilet tissue, soap products, sweaters and fall clothing.  No summer things please.  For larger things call 443-6154 or 443-1032.

1st FRIDAY is OCTOBER 5th!  Come and spend some time with Jesus in adoration.  Sign up sheets are in the back of Church.  Exposition begins following the noon Mass and Benediction follows the 5:00pm Rosary and Evening Prayer.

 

St. Mary School Notes…

 

 

St. Mary Library wishes to thank everyone who helped make our annual Spaghetti Dinner the best ever!  The dinner raised almost $2,600.  With that money, St. Mary Library can continue to offer wonderful library programming and activities for all of our students.  We'd like to give special recognition to some of our our parishioners who helped make the dinner such a delicious success: Frances Grispino, who  contributed one of her famous handmade doll outfits for the raffle, Catherine Goodall, for her pizzelles, and the Knights of Columbus Chapter # 5949 for their generous support of the dinner.  And to the many parishioners who came to eat at the dinner -- Grazie to all!

On January 26, 2008, at the 3rd annual Saint Mary Gala, we will honor two people who have made a significant contribution to the life of St. Mary Parish and School. The Gala committee is seeking nominations for two individuals - parishioners,  alumni, community member, school parent, member of the religious or clergy-- who have positively impacted St. Mary.  Please return the following form in the collection basket or to the school office. Nomination suggestions are due October 10th. The 2007 honorees were Leo Thurn and Martha Goodwin.
