Rite of Christian Initiation (R.C.I.A) might be for you! If you are looking to become Catholic, be

R.C.I.C.—Rite of Christian Initiation of Children will be
started this fall. This program is for children who have not received the Sacraments
of Baptism or First Communion. It is also
for children who are not Catholic, but would like to be so. We are in need of
one or two dedicated instructors. Please call Jason at 445-9668 for more
information or if you are willing to serve as an instructor for this important
ministry.
GOSPEL CHOIR COMING
On Sunday June 29th,
our 11:30 choir will be joined by some guests in town for a
Gospel Choir program. We look forward to hearing from them at the mass.
Attention
all Young Adults (21 to 40)
We are in the planning phases to start a young adult
group here at St. Mary’s. A core team is
forming of three committees: socials, service, and theology/spirituality. If you are interested in being a part of any
of these committees or if you are interested in helping get this important
ministry off the ground please attend the planning meeting on Wed. June 25th,
at 7:30pm, in the parish Speht Center (just next to the parking lot). All ideas

THEOLOGY
AND A PUB
Are you looking for a fun way to learn more about
your faith and meet other Catholic young adults this summer? Join us for
Theology and a Pub! This month's talk is "Do Green and Orange Have to
Clash?" - Kathy and Paul Harvey will share their experience of being
Catholic in Northern Ireland.
The talk will take place on Thursday, June 26 at the
Columbus Maennerchor, 966 South High Street. Doors open at 6, and the talk starts at 7:30 - admission is just $2!

TUTORS NEEDED
The
Dominican Learning Center is seeking volunteer
tutors from your parish area to teach American adult learners as well as adult
immigrants and refugees to read and write. No experience is
necessary. All tutors will be well prepared to teach adult
students. A tutor training workshop, text books, and teacher manuals are
provided by the Dominican Learning Center to each volunteer
instructor. If you are a high school graduate, and can help, please call
Sr. Shawn Fitzpatrick, the Center's Director, at 614-444-7330.
BISHOP READY ADVISORY BOARD
St. Mary’s is entitled to a
second member on Bishop Ready’s High School Advisory Board. Interested
persons are invited to call Father Thomas at 445-9668.
SECURITY CONCERNS
A small statue and a display
of relics were recently taken from our church. The statue has not been
brought back, but the relics have been. They will be locked away until we
can mount them more securely. A security system is being installed in the
church to prevent future problems. We want to continue to leave the
church open for visits during the day. Many churches are locked all week,
and a security system might help us to avoid that here. This summer, the
parish offices will not be open to the general public since we have a day care
program in the Burkley building, but parishioners are always welcome to come in
– just call ahead, or use the speaker phone by the door on 3rd St. Notes in the collection basket or through the
mail are a very convenient way to conduct business with the office here, and
always feel free to leave a message on the phone if you need a call back about
anything.
FOURTH OF JULY EXPOSITION?
The first Friday of July is
also a holiday this year. There will be a noon mass celebrated in thanksgiving for our
freedoms. Also, there will be exposition of the Blessed Sacrament after
mass until 2:00
p.m. If folks would
like exposition to be extended, please call Father Thomas at 445-9668 to
indicate which hour you can be present. With so many family gatherings
and people traveling, we need to be sure at least two people can be present
during exposition.
YOUNG ADULT SUMMER KICK OFF
You’re invited to the Young
Adult Summer Kick-off on Tuesday, June 24th at St. Joseph Cathedral.
It will begin with mass at 5:15,
followed by a BBQ and beer in the Undercroft where you can check out the many
opportunities and events offered by the diocese. The cost for the BBQ is $7.00
(or $5.00 if you bring a non-perishable item that will benefit the Holy Family
Soup Kitchen). For more information contact the Office of Youth & Young

UPDATE
Our three year Bells of St. Mary’s Legacy Campaign has generated pledges
totaling $104,000.00 for 2008. The total pledged over three years in $230,000.00. Thanks
to all who have responded so far. The contract for the tower repair has been
sent to the diocese for review, and we are awaiting permission to proceed. If
you want to make a pledge, please take a brochure from the back of church. The
brochure contains a pledge card and a return envelope.
JULY PLANNING SESSIONS
On
July 13, 20 and 27, at 10:00 a.m. all interested parishioners are invited to participate in a parish self
study authored by the diocese. We will take the results of our study to a
meeting with our fellow deanery parishes (St. Mary Groveport, St. Ladislas, Corpus Christi) to propose ideas to the diocese about how these
parishes can best serve the people of our area.
ST VINCENT DEPAUL SOCIETY
Next weekend, June 28th and 29th our St. Vincent DePaul Society will be asking for
your donations. Please give generously to this ministry as the need in our
community is great. Please use the pre-printed envelopes provided to make your
donation or mark your envelope St. Vincent DePaul.
YOUTH FOOTBALL
Bishop Hartley High School is hosting a Youth Football Camp July 1-3 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. Students in grades three
through eight are invited to participate in this fun filled camp at the Jack
Ryan Field on Hartley's campus. June 26 is the deadline for the $30
registration.
