R.C.I.C.—Rite of Christian Initiation of Children will be
started this fall. This program is for children who have not received the
Sacraments of Baptism or First Communion.
It is also for children who are not Catholic, but would like to be so.
We are in urgent need of one or two
dedicated instructors. Please call Jason at 445-9668 for more information or if
you are willing to serve as an instructor for this important ministry.

CHANGE to WEDDING SCHEDULING
If you are a bride/groom
looking to schedule a wedding here at St. Mary’s or St. Leo’s please attend one
of our marriage information nights held on the third Monday of every month at
7p.m. in the Atrium of the Burkley Center (located by the parish
offices). We will not be scheduling dates or answering questions regarding getting
married over the phone. We want to
meet you in person and make sure you have all the necessary information. The
next meeting will be held on Monday,
Aug. 18th.

CATHARINE ROAD TRIP
Anyone
interested in traveling to Cleveland on Monday, August 18th
to view an exhibition featuring approximately 200 rare works of art, documents,
and historically significant objects from the Vatican should contact St.
Catherine’s at 231-4509.
ALL 20/30 SOMETHING’S are invited to a cookout and outing to Shakespeare
in the Park on Saturday August 16th.
Join other young adults on Father’s rectory patio at
6 p.m., followed by
walking to Schiller Park
for an evening of Shakespeare (starting at 8p.m.). This is a great opportunity to
meet other young adults in the parish.

FEAST OF THE ASSUMPTION
Masses
for the Feast of Mary’s Assumption will be at
7:00 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 14th
and at noon on Friday, Aug. 15th.
HOMECOMING WEEKEND
A hearty welcome back to all St. Mary Alumni!!
Classes from 1958 and 1968 are celebrating their 50th and 40th
class reunions.
ARCHIVES……All are welcome to visit the St. Mary’s school archives room the nights
of the festival. The room in Specht Hall will be open from 6:00
p.m. to 10:00 p.m. each evening.
HOMECOMING PARKING……….festival parking will be permitted on the bank lot
after 5:00
p.m. each evening of the
festival. Parking privileges are for this event and time only and do not extend to Sundays. Additional
parking will be available at the rear of 600 So. High…..directional signs will
be clearly posted to mark the way.
RECYCLE BINS…..the recycle bins for newspapers and aluminum cans will be removed during
the week of Aug. 4th and returned during the week of Aug. 11th.

FESTIVAL…Father Watson and the festival committee invite
you to the Festival
at St. Andrew. on August 15 and 16, 5 p.m. to midnight. Rides,
games, food, casino, white elephant sale, and silent auction. Raffles for
$5,000 cash, flat screen TV and motor scooter. Live entertainment
each night. Berwick Lasagna dinner on Saturday. Fun for all ages!
SCHOOL NEWS
St. Mary volleyball
Volleyball season is around the corner and we need players to fill
teams. Volleyball is open to students in grades 4 – 8. Practice begins on
August 14 or 15. The fee is $70.00 which includes a uniform your athlete can

Bishop Hartley Youth Softball Assc. announces tryouts for the 2009 summer season. Tryouts
will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2008 at Bishop Hartley’s softball complex. Two sessions are available to accommodate
schedule conflicts. Session I of tryouts will be from 8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. and Session II will be from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. Please be at your session thirty minutes early to
register and warm up. All girls who will be 14 or under on Jan. 1, 2009 are eligible to participate. Please contact Hartley

Western Knight Football 2008
Grade school football practice begins Monday,
Aug. 11th at 6:00 p.m. at St. Mary Magdalene
Field. All interested boys of the Parish entering grades 4 through 8 are

St. Catharine
Boys entering grades 4 through 8 are eligible
to play for the EASTERN GREEN WAVE football association. Practice starts Aug.

YOUNG ADULT GROUP NOTICE
St. Mary’s 20/30 Something
Group is collecting school supplies for K-12 students in need. Supplies
will go to students at St. Mary’s school and at schools in the larger Columbus community. Teachers report that the supplies
they need most are backpacks, scientific calculators, and high school level
dictionaries. But any general school supplies such as paper, notebooks,
pens and pencils, etc. are also needed. Place your donations in one of
the marked bins in the church entryway. We will be accepting donations
from Saturday, Aug. 9 through Sunday, Sept. 14. Contact
