R.C.I.C.—Rite of Christian Initiation of Children will be
started this fall. This program is for children who have not received the
Sacraments of Baptism or First Communion.It is also for children who are not Catholic, but would like to be so.

CHANGE to WEDDING SCHEDULING
If you are a bride/groom
looking to schedule a wedding here at St. Mary’s or St. Leo’s please attend one
of our marriage information nights held on the third Monday of every month at
7p.m. in the Atrium of the Burkley Center (located by the parish
offices). We will not be scheduling dates or answering questions regarding getting
married over the phone. We want to
meet you in person and make sure you have all the necessary information. The
next meeting will be held on Monday,
Aug. 18th.

too! A new diaper changing station was added to the men’s restroom. That’s
right Dad - no more excuses.
YOUNG ADULT GROUP NOTICE
St. Mary’s 20/30 Something
Group is collecting school supplies for K-12 students in need. Supplies
will go to students at St. Mary’s school and at schools in the larger Columbus community. Teachers report that the supplies
they need most are backpacks, scientific calculators, and high school level
dictionaries. But any general school supplies such as paper, notebooks,
pens and pencils, etc. are also needed. Place your donations in one of
the marked bins in the church entryway. We will be accepting donations
from Saturday, Aug. 9 through Sunday, Sept. 14. Contact

NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS
FESTIVAL UPDATE
Our
grand prize raffle winner of $5,000.00 was Father Michael Watson (it just
proves that God provides for those who love Him). Upon receipt of his winnings
he made a generous donation to St. Mary.
Thank
you to all who volunteered their time and talent in making this event a success
this year. Special thanks and our appreciation go out to John Lamotte for all
his efforts in coordinating this major fund raiser. John has spear-headed this
effort for the last 18 years.

20-30 SOMETHING BOOK CLUB
Join us Sept. 7th following the
11:30 Mass (mtg. place to be determined). Our first Book
Review will be of "The Shack" by William P. Young.
IT’S THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN-SCHOOL STARTS Orientation for all new to our school is scheduled
for August 19th at 6:00 p.m. in the school cafeteria/gym. All new families are expected to have a
representative present at the orientation meeting to ensure a smooth transition
to our school.
Welcome to our “Down on the Farm” School year! Each year we select a theme
for the year that is current in orientation and importance to our lives on
planet earth. This year we will focus on one of our essential resources – the
farm. We begin our school year on AUGUST
20, 2008 @7:50 a.m. in the cafeteria with prayer. The German custom of
presenting first graders with a Schultuete will be held the same day at 1:15.
COME TO THE PICNIC
Special thanks to the
Knights of Columbus who will sponsor our parish picnic on the front lawn of the
Rectory after the 11:30 mass on September 14. Save the date and plan to come.
BINGO VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Our parish bingo workers
have helped the parish a great deal over the years, but we need some more
volunteers. Your commitment can be just one Sunday a month, and there is no smoking in the gym to cause
health problems. Please call the parish office at 445-9668.
FOOD PANTRY COLLECTION
After all the masses next
weekend, volunteers from our south side food pantry will be at the doors to
accept contributions for their work with the needy. In difficult economic
times, the needs are great at the pantry. One box of food can feed a needy
family as their resources run out at the end of the month. This is a
once-a-year appeal.
SAVE THE DATE – FOOTBALL
FUND RAISER
St.
Peter’s Church is hosting a fundraiser for Holy Rosary/St. John and the St. JohnCenter during the OSU-USC
football game on Saturday, September 13th. The event itself is free
(donations accepted, of course). Food will be available to buy and there
will be a silent auction with unique OSU-themed items. We will also have
a diamond earrings raffle. The St. JohnCenter houses: the Community
Kitchen, the St. JohnLearningCenter, the St. John Pantry, and
a variety of parish programs. Come out and join us for this fun event
that will benefit a wide variety of wonderful programs!
PARKING WARNING
St. Mary’s does not own the
lot closest to the bank branch. If you park there for mass, your car may
be towed. The owners of the building did let us use their lot after 5:00 on the nights of the festival, and we are grateful
for their help in this regard.
CHOIR MEMBERS NEEDED…if you enjoy singing, please consider joining our 9:00 a.m. choir family. We need more members. There is no
tryout and you do not have to read music. Weekly rehearsal is held each Wed. at
7:00 p.m. and resumes on Sept. 3, 2008.For
