It is not too late to join
Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. Meetings are held each Wednesday
in the meeting room in the Burkley Center (located past the restrooms). The class is from 7:00-8:30pm. RCIA is a great opportunity to learn more
about the Catholic faith.
R.C.I.C.—Rite of Christian Initiation of Children is scheduled
to begin September 10, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. This program is for children who have not received the Sacraments of
Baptism or First Communion. It is also
for children who are not Catholic, but would like to be so.
THANKS FOR YOUR GENEROSITY
Our
collection for the Southside Food Pantry last weekend generated $1,527.00; this
exceeds by almost half our total in 2007. Thank you to everyone who gave to

YOUNG ADULT GROUP NOTICE
St. Mary’s
20/30 Something Group is collecting school supplies for K-12 students in
need. Supplies will go to students at St. Mary’s school and at schools in
the larger Columbus community. Teachers report that the supplies they
need most are backpacks, scientific calculators, and high school level
dictionaries. But any general school supplies such as paper, notebooks,
pens and pencils, etc. are also needed. Place your donations in one of
the marked bins in the church entryway. We will be accepting donations
from Saturday, Aug. 9 through Sunday, Sept. 14. Contact Pamela 203-7131

20-30 SOMETHING BOOK CLUB
Join us
Sept. 7th following the 11:30 Mass in the parish atrium located in
the Burkley Center (by the restrooms). We are studying
a different book each month. For September
our first Book Review will be of "The Shack" by William P. Young.
This will be a great opportunity to meet other young adults while having some
great discussion.
ATTENTION…. engaged couples preparing for
marriage here at St. Mary’s. Our September
6th retreat has been cancelled. Please contact Jason at
445-9668 if you were planning on attending that retreat to discuss other
options.
SCHOOL NEWS
September 1, 2008 – NO SCHOOL, LABOR DAY
September 4, 2008, in the school gymnasium there will
be a volunteer sign-up meeting at 6:00 p.m. followed immediately by a “Meet the
teacher” meeting at 7:00 p.m.
PRESENTATION OF GIFTS
If you and
or your family would like the honor of presenting the Eucharistic gifts to
Father please sign up on the sheet located in the back of church under the
picture of Pope Benedict.
OUR LADY of CONSOLATION SHRINE, CAREY, OHIO…...will be hosting a Family Day on
Sunday, September 28th. We
welcome families to come and pray together. Mass will be held at noon, followed by lunch and games for the
family. The day concludes with Devotions at 2:30 p.m. and individual family blessings.
LABOR DAY is SEPTEMBER 1
As our
US Bishops wrote in their document, A Jubilee
for Workers: Challenges and Opportunities for the New Millennium: “It is worth remembering on Labor Day… that a person is more valuable
for what she or he is then for what they have, for the work they do rather than
for what they possess. We must join together… to build a society that respects
each person and their work.” The Marriage and Family Life Office encourages you
to talk with your children about how work gives witness to our faith, how each
of us can make the world a better place by who we are and what we do, and how
all that we do can manifest the love of God. Spend some time reflecting on how
you bring holiness and wholeness to the work you do.
Lord, let our work be a source of joy to our family and a
song of praise to you. Amen.

GRANDPARENTS’ DAY is SEPTEMBER 7
The Marriage and Family Life Office reminds you that Sunday, September 7, 2008 is Grandparents’ Day. In our grandparents we have sensed and felt the thread of
history and the treasure of tradition that lies within our families. We pray
that those who guided our early steps and called forth our talents be richly
rewarded by God, our Divine Parent.
DEACONS ANNUAL CHARITY
OPEN…The deacons of the Diocese of
Columbus (including our own Roger Minner & Larry Koebel) are organizing
their annual golf outing. This year’s proceeds will go to support Divine
Mercy Ministry, a prison re-entry ministry for women. The event is
September 15th at Clover Valley Golf Club. They are still in need of
sponsorships and golfers. A $2,500 sponsor for greens-fees and a $1,500 sponsor
for the luncheon are their major needs, but a donation of any size is welcome.

BREAKFAST with THE BISHOP
Catholic
Social Services’ sixteenth annual Breakfast with the Bishop,
featuring Bishop Frederick F. Campbell, will be held at 7:30 a.m. on Friday,
September 26, 2008, in the Regency Ballroom at the Hyatt Regency, 350 North High St.
This year,
Bishop Campbell will provide a faith perspective on health care. He will be
joined by special guest speaker, Claus P. von Zychlin, president and CEO of
Mount Carmel Health System.
All proceeds from the event will go to support the programs
of Catholic Social Services, a family service agency that helps build
self-sufficiency and individual well-being, strengthen family relationships,
and advocates for persons in need, regardless of faith or background.

SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION
The
Sacrament of Penance will be celebrated here on Saturdays from 3:00 to 3:30 except for October 11th.
The Sacrament will be celebrated on Mondays immediately after the noon mass except for October 13th.
