THEOLOGY and a
Deacons:
the men behind the men of the cloth. They are such a great blessing to many of
our parishes. They do so much both at Mass and behind the scenes. However, have
you ever wondered where deacons come from? Would you believe our first saint
and martyr was a deacon? Join us at Gresso's
on May 19th at 7:30 p.m. as we learn about the history of
the deaconate and the formation process for deacons in our diocese today in "The
Other Guy Up There: The Role of the Deacon." Our speaker is
Jeffery Fortkamp who has completed his formation as a Deacon and he will be joined
by special guests at various stages of their vocation. Gresso's is located at
961 South High Street. Doors open at 6 p.m. and food and drink are available
for purchase before the talk. For more information, go to www.theologyandapub.org."
THANK
YOU
We appreciate all the work of our School Advisory Board. Janet
Dawson and Tina Nierman go off the board this year. Karen Durano and
Brigid Mattox are our new members. They will join Jennifer Hadden, Erin
Howell, Nichole Robinson and Jennifer Smallwood. If you have ideas or
questions to send to them, simply mail them to our parish office, and we will
forward the communication.
WELCOME

JOSEPHINUM
CONCERT
Internationally renowned
organist and composer Naji Hakim will
perform at the Pontifical College Josephinum on Friday, May 22, 2009, at 8:00 p.m. in Saint Turibius Chapel.
Hakim’s highly anticipated performance will close the 20th season of
the Josephinum’s i Fiori Musicali concert series; a year-long
celebration of the seminary’s newly donated Wacek Family Memorial Organ.
Hakim travels
widely, performing throughout Europe and the United States. In 2007, Pope
Benedict XVI awarded Hakim the Holy
Cross Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice, an award of the Catholic Church given
for distinguished service to the church by lay people and clergy. It is the
highest medal that can be awarded to the laity by the Papacy. Tickets may be
purchased at the door on the day of the concert: General Admission $15,
Students $5. For additional information
call (614) 885-5585.
MARK your CALENDARS
Are you interested in learning about the Catholic faith? Are you
looking into joining the Church? Are you a Catholic who has been away for
a while? Then the Rite of Christian Initiation (RCIA) is for you.
It begins with a cook-out on August 19th, at 6 p.m. on the back
patio of Father’s house (to the right of the Church when facing it from 3rd
street). You can bring any support that you need. RCIA sessions will
be held each Wednesday starting at 7 p.m. Attending the classes does not
obligate you to entering the Church at Easter. We look forward to seeing
you in August!
