RCIA – 2009 – 2010

Are you interested in learning about the Catholic faith? Are you looking into joining the Church?  Are you a Catholic who has been away for a while?  Did you miss Confirmation? Then the Rite of Christian Initiation (RCIA) is for you. RCIA sessions are held in the Atrium every Wed, at 7:00 p.m.  Attending the classes does not obligate you to entering the Church at Easter.

Divorce Workshop…The next eight-week workshop will be on Thursday evenings, from 7-9 PM, on  September 24; October 1, 8, 15, 22, 29; November 5, 12, 2009, at the Catholic Center, 197 E. SPECIAL PRAYER REQUEST

Please keep in your prayers the parents and family of Timothy Hartman who was tragically killed earlier this week in an automobile accident. Timothy is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Hartman; Mr. Hartman is the P.E. teacher here at St. Mary.

CONFIRMATION OPPORTUNITIES

Confirmation will be celebrated for our young people here at 11:30 a.m. on November 1^st.  Parents of high school students who missed confirmation should contact Father Thomas about preparation for the sacrament. TAILGATE for LIFE…. is Sunday, Sept. 13, 2009 at the Buckeye Hall of Fame Cafe located on 1421 Olentangy River Road.  Former OSU quarterback Stanley Jackson is the keynote speaker and will tell his pro-life conversion story. LIFE  CHAIN 2009…will take place on Wed., Oct. 7th from 4:30-6:00 p.m. at the Statehouse in downtown Columbus. Please join us for our peaceful prayer chain and witness against abortion. Pro-life signs will be distributed that you can hold during this silent protest. The goal this year is to ring the entire perimeter of the Statehouse, so bring your pro-life friends and family members! 

 

SEMINARIANS

Again this year the Josephinum will assign two seminarians to St. Mary for the purpose of visiting and distributing the Eucharist to our homebound parishioners. Please contact the parish office if you know of someone that resides within our parish boundaries that would welcome a visit by these dedicated young men.

 

 

FAMILY DAY – CAREY, OHIO

Our Lady of Consolation Shrine in Carey, Ohio will be hosting a family day on Sun. Sept. 17^th. We welcome families to come and pray together.  Mass will be celebrated at noon followed by lunch and games for the family. 

 

 

 

 

SAVE THE DATE….Sept. 10, 2009 at St. Brigid of Kildare Church & Hendricks Hall, when Father Peter Vasko OFM, President of the Franciscan Foundation for the Holy Land, celebrates a 5:30 p.m. Mass followed by dinner, silent auction (including items from Jerusalem), and a presentation on the current conditions in the Holy Land by Bishop Emeritus James A. Griffin. Reservations for the 4^th annual Cradling Christianity fundraiser can be made by calling 459-5676 or 761-9854.  The $100 per person cost is a tax deductible contribution that provides immediate educational assistance for the Christians in the Holy Land.

 

SAINT JOSEPH CATHEDRAL MUSIC SERIES

At 9:00 p.m. on the first Sunday of every month beginning Sept. 6^th the Office of Compline (Night prayer) will be chanted by the Cathedral Men’s Choir. Please join us for this beautiful service.  Sun. Sept. 20^th at 3:00 p.m. Dr. Craig Cramer, Professor of Organ, University of Notre Dame will perform works of Dieterich, Buxtehude, J. S. Bach, and Max Reger. Mr. Cramer has made numerous CD recordings, the latest features the Cathedral’s Fritts organ. $10.00 suggested donation. BREAKFAST with the BISHOP

Catholic Social Services’ seventeenth annual Breakfast with the Bishop, featuring Bishop Frederick F. Campbell, will be held at 7:45 a.m. promptly on Fri., Sept.18, 2009, in the Regency Ballroom at the Hyatt Regency, 350 North High Street. This year, Bishop Campbell will provide a faith perspective on the economy. He will be joined by Don Wisler, president and CEO of Catholic Social Services. All proceeds from the event will go to support the programs of Catholic Social Services. Individual tickets are available for $40 each. THEOLOGY AND A PUB

In our Catholic lives, we are asked to go on pilgrimages. Yet, typically, we put off making a pilgrimage until our 50's, 60's, and 70's because pilgrimages are no fun. (Apologies to my own pastor who is planning his own pilgrimage.) However, what if there was a pilgrimage that did not resemble a pilgrimage? Join Theology And A Pub on Sept. 9th in its' new location at Claddagh Pub at 8745 Sancus Blvd. at 7 p.m. for a talk with Father Larry Rice on his upcoming pilgrimage to Camino next March. SACRAMENT OF PENANCE-SCHEDULE CHANGE

The Sacrament of Penance is usually celebrated on Saturday at 3:00 and on Monday right after the noon mass.  However, it will not be celebrated on Saturday, September 26 or Monday, September 28.
